Tulamben, a sleepy fishing village about three hours drive from Denpasar, Bali has become of the most popular dive destinations in the area. Mainly due to the Liberty wreck, an American transport ship torpedoed by the Japanese in 1942 and the healthy coral and fish life that has sprung up around and on her, many divers have Tulamben on their places to dive wishlist. Recently the area has started to gain renown for the increasingly good macro diving is being discovered. The diving here is largely shore diving, with most dive sites being close by.
The Melasti is a new resort in the area created by divers and underwater photographers. Exceptionally well-appointed, modern, comfortable rooms and bungalows with everything you would hope for to make your stay exceptional.
The restaurant serves a good selection of cuisine, and plant-based diets are well-catered for. The management strives to stay on top of their game and is constantly tweaking the service and improving. The Infinite Blue team will definitely be back here.
Dive sites are very close to the resort, and those which are not shore dives are reached on one of the comfortable speedboats. Speedboats are a luxury in the area, and you will appreciate it when you see divers from other shops scrambling over the stony beaches getting in and out of the water.
There are up to four dives a day done ‘liveaboard’ style, with time in between dives back at the resort to eat and relax. With the dive packages here, we will also take you south to dive Amed, one of the area’s burgeoning macro hot spots.
Diving in Tulamben will, for a start, focus on the Liberty wreck, which is enormous and should be dived at least twice and then move to other excellent sites, including the wall and Seraya Secrets. Whether as a trip on its own or included as part of a greater Indonesian dive itinerary, Tulamben and Melasti Resort are recommended.
