Dauin, Dumaguete is a remarkable diving destination for many reasons and should be one to get under your weight belt. Large stretches of the black sand Dauin coastline are marine protected areas, and life is flourishing because of it, not just the bigger fish but also the critters. Famous for Frogfish, Dauin ranks among the top two macro locations in the Philippines alongside Anilao. About a 50-minute boat ride away is Apo Island. The oldest marine protected sanctuary in the Philippines; this small island hosts extremely vibrant coral life, fish, and large numbers of sea turtles.
