The diving around Bohol is considered some of the best in the Philippines, with Balicasag island being one of the crown jewels. Now with the new international airport on Panglao Island, it’s even easier, quicker, and cheaper to get there than ever.
There are many international flights into Cebu or Manila, and domestic ones, mainly from Manila. Bohol is easily reached by boat from many other islands, with four fast ferry companies plying the route between Cebu and Tagbilaran.
The Bohol Sea sits on the island’s eastern side and has a depth of over 2000 meters, with nutrient-rich waters supplied by currents running through from the Pacific Ocean. For this reason, there is rich coral life on the reefs and frequent encounters with Whale sharks. Whale and Dolphin encounters are common as you head to or from dive sites on one of Alona Divers’ big bangka boats.
The level of dive experience, location, accommodations, and service inclusivity makes Seaquest Divers our pick for the overall best dive resort in Bohol.
Dive Bohol with Seaquest, one of the few remaining pioneers of diving in Bohol. Not only do they have a highly experienced and attentive dive team, but they are also a PADI Five Star IDC Resort, regularly running courses and instructor training programs.
Unlike many dive operators in the Panglao area, the dive shop is one of few located directly on the beach, making diving much more convenient than many other establishments.
Stay at the newly renovated Oasis Resort, Seaquest Dive Centre’s on-site accommodation set back just off the beach. The resort offers a range of rooms, is nestled amongst tropical vegetation, and is just a hop, skip and jump to the dive shop. Lounge around the resort’s private pool after a great day diving.
Diving in Bohol covers a broad spectrum of scuba adventure and experience levels. From peaceful sandy areas and muck to thrilling drift dives along coral-encrusted walls surrounded by schools of Jackfish and the chance of Whale sharks passing by.
The Bohol Sea is rich with pelagic life, from Whales and Dolphins to Manta and Mobula rays, and the nutrient-rich waters provide for good coral growth.
Balicasag Island is probably the number one dive spot with its abundant marine life that includes a vast Jackfish school, Dogtooth Tuna, Spanish Mackerel, and at the last count, 177 green turtles.
Other top dive sites are Pamilican Island and Doljo. Cabilao, where the Hammerheads are rumoured to be seen deep in the morning, has exceptionally healthy coral and sponge growth and is fantastic for macro spotters. For tailored dive trips to Bohol, connect with us.
